During last months statements by Govt. functionaries specifying policy changes by Indian Establishment regarding Pakistan have been objected to. Pakistan was expected to do so , but even Indian Opposition and a part of media also objected to declared intent. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar felt so much disgusted with the criticism that recently he declared at Goa he would not talk with media for next six months.
For many years India has been holding talks with Pakistan time to time. But these talks didn't bear any fruit. Pakistan has been stressing that Jammu & Kashmir is unfinished agenda of partition and the state has wrongfully been usurped by India. Pakistan keeps repeating that it will provide all moral support ,which means all kind of support including money and arms, to the Kashmiri secessionists.
In Pakistan there are many power centers and strongest of these is Army. As such there is a rare possibility that ever all the branches of power in Pakistan will converge on a common ground and that too for friendship with India. There are several vested interests including a section of politicians, army and fanatic groups in Pakistan who survive on anti India sentiments.
As such India has no other viable option but to keep Pakistan under pressure and tell that it will have to bear the brunt of a" Tit for Tat" policy in case of any mischief.
So I find nothing objectionable if Indian Defence Minister says that he sees no harm in using Terrorists against Terrorists. Similarly giving details of Indian Military Operation in Myanmar and telling such operations could be taken up in other neighbour countries also where so called Non State Actors are holed up, is also not a bad idea at all.
My view is when Pakistan unabashedly supports Kashmiri Militants and separatists why should we not support Baluch separatists of Pakistan and announce our moral support for them as Baluchs are being repressed by Pakistan with its army might. Why should we be shy of our moral support for the Muhajir community of Pakistan if they are at the receiving end there. India can also allege that Pakistan usurped North West Frontier Province by a stage managed referendum at the time of Independence although there was a Congress Govt. in the province. As the then Congress leaders didn't desire to have N W F P as non contiguous territory of India they didn't object to tactics of Muslim League. Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan felt abandoned by Congress. He told if there was no option of going with India before the Pakhtoons, they should have been given option of Independence. But N W F P was given to Pakistan on a platter.
While adopting a policy of putting Pakistan under pressure we must bite only as much as we can chew because we must be able to show that we mean business. Pakistan should know that we are not just bragging rather we intend to carry out what we declare. The day Pakistan comes to know that we can call its bluff and it will have to pay back with the same coins it will stop its subversive game. Pakistan will sit silently if it comes to know that its tails are under Indian feet. Thereafter our talks with Pakistan would also be fruitful.
During his talks with journalists when someone asked Manohar Parrikar 'Pakistan ko mirchi lag gai', he said laughingly 'Andhra ki mirchi lag gai'. Although he might have said so in jestful mood, he should have avoided it. Important Govt. functionaries should always be cautious about what they say publicly specially when commenting about a neighbor country, as it may have wider ramifications. Even their jokes could be taken seriously so they should talk businesslike.
